Dan Ritchie tries to avoid the crowds and traffic near Crabtree during certain times of the day.
"If you come at certain times of the day, it's not so bad," Ritchie says, "but during rush hour it would be terrible. I wouldn't even come during rush hour."
Ritchie is not alone. The results ofWRAL OnLine's hot button pollshow 81 percent of our visitors avoid the mall because of traffic.
City leaders are aware of the problem, and have revived a proposed Crabtree Connector as a solution. The proposed corridor would run along Crabtree Creek behind the mall, and steer traffic away from Glenwood Avenue.
The group is prepared to spend up to $15 million, nearly half the money the project would cost. The $15 would be part of a $95 million bond proposal that could come up for vote in 2001.
The rest of the money would come from the state, and private developers.
