Davidson Sheriff May Run for Governorship

Posted Updated

LEXINGTON — The North Carolina sheriff who put jail inmates in stripes and painted their cells pink is considering a run for governor.

Davidson County Sheriff Gerald Hege says he'll meet with members of the Reform Party in the next few weeks.

Hege is a past chairman of the Davidson County Republican Party, but he says the Reform Party might be a better fit.

Hege says he's keeping an open mind as he listens to what both parties have to say.

Last week, Court TV reportedly offered the sheriff his own show on the cable network.
