The family living in this home thought they smelled smoke after a flash of lightning. Within minutes, they discovered the attic was on fire and called 911.
Firefighters raced to the scene, getting there in time to contain the blaze to the upper level of the house.
"We have salvage covers on all the property on the first and second level to protect them from water damage and smoke damage," said chief George Mills of the Bay Leaf Fire Department. "But there's no heat damage on the first and second levels."
The family made it out of the house safely.
While lightning is suspected, Mill said the investigators will be looking into an exact cause of the blaze.
