Robeson Officer Shot in Apparent Misunderstanding

Posted Updated

LUMBERTON — A Robeson County officer was shot Friday after an apparent misunderstanding.

Deputy James Britt was investigating what he thought was a burglary in progress at a home. Britt and a deputy entered an open door after announcing themselves as officers.

However, a young man who lived at the home came out of a bedroom shooting. Britt was shot in the arm.

Investigators say they do not yet know if charges will be filed against the shooter.
