Dozens Gather for Anti-Violence Campaign

Posted Updated

DURHAM — The candles are all melted but the message of a vigil Sunday night continues to burn brightly.

Dozens of people gathered at the Durham County administrative complex to remember victims of violence. Participants hoped to raise public awareness.

"It's something that I've been committed to," said Nikki C. Tousley. "I've worked with prisoners, trying to teach them alternative ways of living, and I think we all need to look at that. Look at ways that we ourselves contribute to the violence in the world around us."

The vigil featured a special tribute to victims of murder in 1998. Several anti-crime groups also participated.
