Michael Lee, 17, of West Club Boulevard, and Kevin Patterson, 17, of Cornell Street, were arrested Tuesday night in connection with the Saturday shooting of Dante McMillian.
Lee was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, going armed to the terror of the public and possession of a firearm by a minor. He is being held on $250,000 bond.
Patterson was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, going armed to the terror of the public and possession of a handgun.
Prosecutors had asked for a $100,000 bond for Patterson, but a judge doubled it, saying Patterson was a danger to the public.
Both teenagers have probable cause hearings scheduled for Jan. 31.
McMillian, who authorities said was shot multiple times on the DATA bus, was treated at a local hospital and has since been released.
Durham authorities have increased police officers' presence on city buses as a result of the shooting, as well as another shooting on Dec. 26, in which authorities believe resulted from an argument on a DATA bus.
In the Dec. 26, case, Lazarren McLean, 16, was shot to death outside Northgate Mall, and another teenager was wounded. Police are still looking for a suspect in connection with that case, 17-year-old Lamar Bass.
