State Transportation Secretary Norris Tolson is meeting with people all over the state. Tuesday, he was in Durham.
The folks attending the meeting had to wait to talk to Tolson, because he was late getting to the meeting.
He says he was stuck in traffic. The delays may have given him a good perspective going in to the meeting.
Tolson will be having 29 meetings throughout the state through April. People can speak now, but it will not change the funding formula that is currently on the table.
Many people are upset with theDOT'sroad funding formula, and the road funding forums are supposed to help with that.
Outside the Durham City Council chambers, state workers answered the public's questions on everything from wildflowers to weigh stations.
Inside, where the staff was listening to comments, people were voicing their opinions.
"Our allocation for the next six years has been reduced by over $15 million, a reduction of six percent. With the rapid growth that we have, serving as the economic engine for our region where we have Research Triangle Park, we feel that, if anything, we need a major increase not a decrease," said Durham County Commissioner Ellen Reckhow.
The meeting was not just for public officials. Anyone could attend and speak.
They do say that all the comments will be considered in the next Transportation Improvement Program.
