Would-Be Thefts End in Death

RALEIGH — One person is dead and four others injured after a group of people were spotted breaking into cars and Raleigh police gave chase.

A security guard at an auto dealership on Capital Boulevard spotted the break-ins under way.

The suspects took off in a sports utility vehicle with police in pursuit.

The chase ended when the driver lost control and crashed.

Comeshia Lote Battle, 19, of Goldsboro was found dead at the scene. The driver, 18-year-old Troy Lee Woods of Goldsboro, and three other passengers were taken to an area hospital.

Their injuries were said to be not life-threatening.

No charges have been issued and the investigation continues.
