Autopsy Reveals Missing Wilson Man Died of Heart Attack

Posted Updated

WILSON — Police in Wilson say Dwight Strickland died of a heart attack. Strickland's body was found behind an industrial building Wednesday morning.

Workers at the Jefferson-Smurfit plant say they found Dwight Strickland's body in a wooded area near the company's parking lot.

"Anytime someone is missing for several days and is located and are deceased, you could certainly classify that as being suspicious," said Wilson Police Capt. J.K. Anderson.

The 71-year-old Wilson resident was reported missing Sunday.

Police arrested Joseph Jones for allegedly stealing Strickland's car. Jones, 18, has been in the Wilson County Jail since Sunday, under a $10,000 bond.

Jones is now being charged with preventing the discovery of a dead body. Authorities say Strickland was with Jones when he died of the heart attack.

People who knew Stickland said he was dependable and honest. He was well-known around Wilson as a delivery man for an auto parts store.
