Raleigh Bus Hits Police Car, Trapping Officer

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — A Raleigh CAT bus T-boned a Raleigh police cruiser around 8 Monday morning at a downtown intersection.

The bus was traveling inbound on Morgan Street and the officer was traveling northbound on West Street. The bus slammed into the driver's side of the police cruiser, pinning Officer D.W. Hicks.

It took nearly half an hour to free the officer from the car.

Rescue crews had to use the "jaws of life."

Hicks was taken to Wake Medical Center where he is listed in satisfactory condition. There were several passengers on the bus who complained of minor injuries, but only one was transported.

The accident caused traffic tie-ups in the downtown area and slowed the morning commute.
