Turn the Clock Back, It's No Longer Daylight-Saving Time

Sunday at 2 a.m. daylight-saving time ends and we set our clocksbackan hour. Time seems to be the enemy of all. We never seem to have enough. Daylight saving time does not save time; simply shifts it.

The US Naval Observatory is the country's official timekeeper - almost.

"The definition of when we go on and off daylight time is actually handled through the Department of Transportation," says Geoff Chester of the Naval Observatory.

Ah Ha. That explains it! Trains, buses and planes govern when we get up! Activists advocate doing away with two time zones; dividing the country into only two zones and doing away with saving time.

"You'll have to take that up with the folks at DOT and Congress," Chester said.

Yeah, right! All those clocks must be set back in the fall and forward in the spring. Tough on some.

"Monday morning when I come in, I'll spend the majority of the day winding and re-setting all these clocks we have," clock store owner Steve Brown said.

A waste of time. Regardless of what you may think, time does not wait for farmers either.

"At 5 o'clock Monday it's going to be dark, and we will still have two or three hours of work left to do," farmer Helen Wise said.

By the way. Many say "daylight savings time" - it's not. It's daylight-saving time. A great musician, Hector Berlioz once said; "time is a great teacher. Unfortunately it kills all its students" - remember to set back your clock Saturday night.
