Rev. Jimmy Creech, whose support for gay rights ignited controversy in the Methodist Church, returned to North Carolina after being ousted from a Raleigh church in 1990.
Creech has been keeping a low profile since the controversy that cost him his congregation. But his message has not changed. Despite the toll it has taken on his personal and professional life, Creech says he would still perform another same-sex marriage.
The congregation at the United Church of Chapel Hill held a lesbian marriage earlier this year. Today Creech told them about the same-sex marriage he performed for two women in Nebraska.
Creech defied a bishop's order by marrying the couple, but he was not formally disciplined by the church.
That incident created widespread confusion that now threatens the future of the Methodist Church.
