HILLSBOROUGH — Following a recent sexual assault and beating in a ladies room of the Hillsborough courthouse, officials are strenthening security at the county courthouse.
Effective immediately, two uniformed sheriff's deputies will patrol the courthouse on Margaret Lane during hours of operation.
Bailiffs will continue security checks prior to each court session and remain in the courtroom during proceedings.
Orange county officials are exploring use of metal detection and other security equipment in the Margaret Lane facility to ensure safety of employees and citizens using court facilities.
