WAKE FOREST, N.C. — A woman has been charged Tuesday with misdemeanor child abuse after she left a 5-year-old girl sleeping in a day-care van.

Authorities said Cortrina Conyers, 136 Cotton Paws Street, of Rolesville, did not notice that Akalya Kimbrough had fallen asleep in the back of the van on the way to Children's Adventure Child Development Center.

According to officials, Kimbrough had been in the van for nearly two hours before she was discovered. Conyers has since been fired from the day-care center.

Conyers could face a sentence of between one and 120 days in jail if convicted. She is scheduled to appear in court Friday, May 18.
