Black Freshman Enrollment Remains Steady

Posted Updated

CHAPEL HILL — The percentage of black freshmen enrolling in North Carolina's five largest public universities is holding steady this fall.

That's music to the ears of people who were concerned policy changes could hurt the UNC system's 25-year-effort to desegregate. Last fall, UNC System President Molly Broad told campuses to review affirmative action programs.

Broad says she's optimistic black enrollment can continue to rise because more and more academically prepared students are graduating from high school.
