Fayetteville Woman Carjacked, Robbed, Shot

The 41-year-old woman survived and crawled for help. She is hospitalized in serious condition.

Police believe the suspect took off in the woman's car.

The victim was found off a Fort Bragg road near Smith Lake just after 2 a.m. Monday. Witnesses who helped her say she was badly beaten and had been shot several times.

"A man walked into my office and said 'We found someone who's been shot down the road a ways from your office,'" said Smith Lake Manager Jim Talbot. "I said are you sure they've been shot? He said yes."

Investigators say the woman helped save herself by crawling to a firebreak road where she was seen by a passerby. Had she not made it that far, she very easily could have died in the woods.

"With the report that we got that the shooting who knows where sometime last night. Crawling some distance. There are an awful lot of unknowns," said LtC. Rick Spearman of Fort Bragg's 18th Airborne Corps.

Some of those questions have now been answered. The victim was carjacked and robbed in Fayetteville. Workers at a Raeford Road fast food restaurant say the victim was a manager there.

Investigators are not yet saying if the woman was abducted from the restaurant.

Investigators aren't releasing the victim's name, but they are looking for her car. Police believe the suspect or suspects took off in the woman's dark gray, 4-door 1991 Nissan Sentra with North Carolina license plate number CXY 2210.
