Johnston, Chatham 911 Systems Back Up After Storms

Posted Updated

LILLINGTON — Severe thunderstorms last night and this morning had some dramatic effects on emergency services, but everything is operating properly this morning.

Sunday's storms nearly knocked out all of Johnston County's 911 service. For several hours only one of seven emergency lines was operating after the system was hit by lightning.

Instead of using computers, dispatchers had to answer the emergency phone line and write down all information.

All seven lines were back in service shortly after 1 a.m. Monday.

Chatham County also lost its 911 service for a short time during the storms, but it, too, was running nicely Monday morning.
