Chatham County Crash Kills 1, Injures 3

Car, pickup collided at intersection and truck flipped over.

BENNETT, N.C. — One person was reported killed and three others were hurt Thursday evening in a crash at the intersection of Howard Mill Road and N.C. 42/22, the state Highway patrol said.

Troopers confirmed that one person had been killed. The accident involved a sedan and a pickup truck, they said.

Two people were airlifted from the accident scene to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill with what police said were serious but non-life-threatening injuries. A third person was taken to Central Carolina Hospital for examination was not believed to be seriously hurt, according to troopers at the scene.

Troopers said the passenger car was eastbound on Howard Mill Road and did not stop at a stop sign at the intersection. The pickup, going south on N.C. 42/22 hit the driver's side of the car and flipped over. One person was thrown from the car, police said.
