GOLDSBORO — About a dozen families in Goldsboro are finally back in their homes after a six-hour standoff between police officers and a man who they say is mentally ill.
At about 3:30 Wednesday afternoon, Sheriff's deputies tried to take the 46-year old man to a mental institution when he refused to go. The man owns several guns and vowed not to be taken alive.
Police closed off a mile long stretch of O'Berry Center Road while they negotiated a peaceful settlement.
