Orange County Animal Shelter Overcrowded Due to Evidence

Posted Updated

HILLSBOROUGH — The Orange County Animal Shelter is turning to the courts to relieve overcrowding.

The shelter is still holding 45 pit bulls seized last month in an alleged dog fighting ring.

Even though the dogs are unsafe for adoption, the shelter can't euthanize them because they may be needed as evidence.

An animal cruelty investigator has filed suit to gain custody of the dogs from their owner so they can legally be destroyed.
