Slain Teen's Family Hopes Bigger Reward Will Lead to Arrest
A Wake County teen was found dead at his parents' home in 2000. Seven years later, family members hope a larger reward leads to more information in the case.
Posted — UpdatedUsama Husein, 16, of Presnell Court in Raleigh, was found shot to death April 14, 2000, in a ditch near his parents' driveway. Authorities said he had been waiting outside for a friend to pick him up to go on a trip for spring break.
Omar Husein, Usama's brother, announced Wednesday that his family has increased the $20,000 initial reward to $50,000.
"It's very frustrating. It's something that we would never want any other family to go through," he said.
Investigators said some of Usama’s former friends, who initially had been reluctant to talk, may now be more willing to speak to investigators.
“We hope that the passage of time and the increased reward will encourage people to talk to us and provide the missing information that will help us find Usama’s murderer,” said Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison.
Authorities believe Usama Husein may have been killed in revenge for a fistfight that occurred months before the shooting.
