RALEIGH — When a couple with children divorces, grandparents are sometimes left out in the cold. Now, some of them are fighting for the right to be heard in court when the issue of visitation is debated.
Tuesday, a group of grandparents rallied outside the legislature in an attempt to bring attention to their concerns.
"We think grandparents should have the right to see the grandchildren," said
"We're not asking for custody," said Betty Fulmer, one of the demonstrators. "We just want to see them, be part of the family."
The bill to give grandparents the right to be heard in court, on visitation issues is currently in the House Rules Committee. There's no word on when lawmakers might vote on that legislation.
