Donated Headstone Erected for Brittany Locklear

Posted Updated

RAEFORD, N.C. , JULY 21, 1998 — A cold reminder of a little girl's death and a killer still on the loose went up in Hoke County Monday.

Six months ago, 5-year old Brittany Locklear was kidnapped from her school bus stop and murdered.

While Brittany's mother, Connie Chavis, is frustrated that the killer has not been found, she says the donated headstone provides her some peace of mind.

"I've been to a lot of graves and they didn't have tombstones and I felt sorry for them even though I didn't know them," said Locklear. "At least Brittany was thought enough of to get a tombstone."

Connie Chavis says she knows nothing will bring her daughter back. She just hopes the killer is found soon.
