HOLLY SPRINGS — Holly Springs residents are making sure everyone knows they don't want a proposed landfill coming to their neighborhood.

Despite Saturday's searing temperatures, more than 200 people joined the "Death to the Dump" march along Highway 55. They carried signs and black balloons, and wore black armbands.

Residents hope such protests will get the attention of county officials, and convince them to kill the project.

"This is a wonderful place to live and we don't want to have to look out our windows and see a dump over the horizon," said

The proposed South Wake landfill would be built off Highway 55, and take in 1900 tons of garbage each day.
