The North Carolina state games are taking place this weekend, and the Ice House in Cary is hosting some of the youngest hot shots on the ice.
They are small skaters, with big hearts and a love for the sport of hockey.
Members of the Flying Aces hockey team were ready to give it all they had. They were among the so-called mites in this year's state games.
Mites are the youngest hockey players, and are 6 to 8-years-old.
"Our team plays very well, of course, we're a young team, 6 to 8-years-old age group," parent Carole Beam said. "But those kids get out there and have fun and I'm just so impressed with how well they skate with all that equipment. They do really well."
Seven mite teams are participating in the two-day tournament. Parents seemed to enjoy the games as much as the kids.
"I'm just real proud of these kids," coach Hobert Orton said. "They skate real hard and they try real hard and someday they'll make pretty good hockey players."
The Flying Aces of Raleigh were beat by the TYH NC Sharks of Greensboro, 8 to 2. The Aces will get another chance on the ice when the tournament continues tomorrow.
