Young now faces a second count of first degree rape. He appeared in court Wednesday morning, where he was appointed an attorney.
Police say in the most recent charge, Young is accused of arresting an 18-year-old woman during a traffic incident on April 17. On the way to the police station, the woman charges, she was raped in a church parking lot. She told police she was afraid to come forward until she heard media reports on the May incident.
"Because they were in trouble with the law or they were charged with something or stopped for a traffic charge, they felt like 'who's going to believe me over a police officer?'" says Fayetteville Police Lt. Katherine Guilette.
Six complaints have now been filed against the rookie patrolman. Young has been served a notice of dismissal. If he does not appeal by Thursday, he will be terminated from the police force, according to Fayetteville Police Chief Ron Hansen.
Young remains incarcerated with $125,000 bond. Investigators are contacting every female who received a citation from Young during his eight months on the force. They say they want to hear about any other incidents that might have occurred.
Fayetteville Police Victims' Advocate Norma Hall says, if the allegations against Young are true, such abuse of power can make victims lose all trust in the police profession.
"The next time they see someone that looks like the perpetrator, which in this case ... a blue uniform, certainly there's going to be some caution there, and that's very normal," says Hall.
After the initial charge, Young told police the sex was consensual. Since then, he has refused to cooperate with officers.
