Woman Dies in Lumberton Wreck

LUMBERTON — Of seven passengers in a van headed south on I-95 Sunday morning, one is dead and five are injured.

Law officers said a van driven by Melena Garrett, 22, from Florida, went off the road to the left, came back on the pavement and then flipped, hurling several passengers from the vehicle.

Officers said 28-year-old Gemini Moore, also of Florida, was killed in the single-vehicle accident. Garrett is in serious condition at a local hospital.

The other passengers were the women's children: Kyle Dodson, 11; Anthony Moore, 8; Amanda Moore, 7; Michael Moore, 4; and Gordon Garrett, 2 years old.

The crash occurred at 7:05 a.m. on a stretch of I-95 about 6 miles south of Lumberton.

All of the children but Kyle Dodson needed a check-up for various injuries at a local hospital. >They were all taken to Southeast Regional Hospital.
