Police Search for Suspects in the Shooting of a Rocky Mount Business Owner

The State Bureau of Investigation joined the search and thousands of dollars are offered in reward money.

A basket of flowers marks the spot where an unknown gunman opened fire on James Holloman.

The Rocky Mount businessman and grandfather left his office Friday night when someone robbed him, shot him and left him for dead.

"That was really a tragedy for everybody around here cause Mr. Holloman was such a nice guy," said Sam Eerdari, a friend of the victim. "He was helpful for everybody around."

Sam Eerdari called for paramedics after Holloman made a desperate plea for help.

After Holloman was shot, he managed to drive himself to a convenience store down the road. He stayed on his feet long enough to make it to the front door where he asked a friend inside to call for help.

"And he just fell outside and I called the police for him and the ambulance and I stayed with him until the ambulance came," Eerdari said.

Holloman died minutes later. Police believe someone in the neighborhood saw something that could help them break this case.

"Through talking to these people and some other factors, we know there were more people on this lot in that immediate time frame," Rocky Mount Police Lt. Wayne Sears said. "That's who we're looking to try to either contact through public appeal or gathering information through this broadcast as to who they are.

The reward will go to anyone who knows information.

Investigators said that someone knows something that could bring this case to a close.
