PEMBROKE — After almost a year of investigating, detectives have made an arrest in the murder of a UNC Pembroke student.
Cynthia Wheeler disappeared last June. Investigators suspected foul play from the start after discovering the student's car burned and bullet-riddled. Her body was found months later in a wooded area of Robeson County.
Monday night, investigators charged 27-year-old Dane Locklear with first degree murder.
They won't comment on a motive yet, saying they expect to make another arrest.
