Defense Rests in Blackwell Murder Trial

After two weeks of prosecution testimony and two dozen witnesses, the defense rested Monday without offering a single witness on behalf of his client.

Closing arguments are expected to begin Wednesday morning. For the rest of Monday, the judge and attorneys planned to discuss instructions the judge will be giving to jurors. This case could be in their hands as early as Wednesday afternoon.

While he called no witnesses himself, Public Defender Bob Brown did cross-examine the prosecution's witnesses at great length. During the past two weeks, he has often implied both that Blackwell did not cross the center line in the road, and that he had mechanical difficulties with his pickup truck.

Blackwell is only the second person charged with murder in connection with an alleged drunk driving incident. He could receive a life sentence if found guilty.
