Young Victim's Father Testifies in Durham Trial

Posted Updated

DURHAM — The father of a young Durham girl killed in a drunk driving accident took the stand Monday in a Durham courtroom. Greg Dail was the prosecution's final witness in the first degree murder trial of Timothy Blackwell, after two weeks of testimony.

Blackwell is the habitual drunk driver charged with first degree murder for the death of 4-year-old Megan Dail.

Greg Dail's testimony was emotional and disturbing as he described what he remembers from the chaos surrounding the wreck that took his daughter's life.

When Blackwell's pickup truck slammed into the Dails' minivan on February 27, 1997, Dail says there was only one thing on his mind -- the conditions of his three children. He says he called out to Megan and got no response.

Blackwell and Dail's wife Sherry Dail listened intently to the testimony, but Greg Dail never wavered about who caused his daughter's death.

The defense will begin its case Tuesday morning. That segment of the trial is expected to be much shorter, and most expect the jury to get the case before the end of this week.
