CHAPEL HILL — Seven UNC-Chapel Hill football players appeared in Orange County court Monday.
The players are accused of assaulting freshman David Byer outside a Chapel Hill club last December 5. The players face a variety of misdemeanor assault charges.
Police say the fight broke out after a private fraternity party at the Gotham night club.
Byer said he was attacked by the players after he tried to break up a fight. He claims he was punched and his head was slammed against a car.
There have been conflicting reports from witnesses about what occurred.
