Wake County Closes Book on Summer School

Posted Updated

RALEIGH — Some students in Wake County won't have to worry about summer school. After years of ineffective summer classes, the district is closing the book on them.

The district says elementary and middle school students who need extra help with their studies should get it throughout the year, rather than just during the summer months.

The $1.1 million dollars allocated for Wake County's summer schools will now be used to give students extra help throughout the year. Summer school will remain in place for high school students who pay tuition.
