The message was simple: don't reassign our kids to another school. This plan-- I see no benefit for these children to be sent so far as they'll be sent, to get up so much earlier than they have to get up, to be put under so much stress...
It's stress that many parents feel will hurt their children in the long run. Parent Sylvester Wilkins says the move would negatively impact many students school work and academic performance, and that's something that will follow them in their records. He also stressed how difficult it is for many kids to break away from friendships they have already developed.
The children would face longer trips to school, and some parents say they would no longer be able to volunteer in their child's school. The school board wants to reassign students to balance the tremendous amount of growth in the area.
Hundreds of parents want the school board to find another way to handle the situation, and leave their children out of it. A concerned father spoke out on the bottom line: I would just hope you would reconsider the plan, to take a step back and look at it and make sure it's the best thing for everyone. Don't just do it to get the bottom line straight as far as the numbers are concerned.
The next step is for the advisory committee to make a recommendation from Monday's meeting to the school board. A decision is expected to be made sometime in April.
