Authorities Find Pharmacy Refuse In Green Co. Farm House

Posted Updated

FARMVILLE — Personal medical information on file with pharmacists is supposed to be confidential, but someone got their hands on some of that information in Greene County. Thousands of empty pill bottles and prescription forms were found in a remote farm house there.

The medical waste was stolen from dumpsters outside pharmacies in several counties. Investigators say the thieves may be trying to obtain drugs, or they may only want personal information on the pharmacies' customers.

Greene County Sheriff Ted Sauls says there's plenty of information a criminal could use.

Sauls says the bottles had addresses from several surrounding counties. Whoever is responsible for stealing the medical trash faces misdemeanor dumping charges and possible federal fraud charges.
