CHAPEL HILL — A lot of people at the University of North Carolina are on edge after a man attacked a female employee early Friday morning. The woman got away, but not without quite a scare.

The incident happened in a parking lot right off of Park Place on the UNC campus. Police say the attack was particularly dangerous as the suspect pulled a bag over the victim's head before forcing her into a wooded area. What's worse is the fact the attacker is still on the lam.

The far northeastern part of campus was the scene of the alleged crime. Around 2:00 a.m., a woman who works at UNC approached her car. Captain Clay Williams says from there, the suspect came up from behind. That's when a struggled ensued.

Campus police have stepped patrols at the scene of the crime in other outlying parts of campus. Safety measures, including the point-to-point student shuttle bus, are also being encouraged. Point-to-point vans have also been kept busy.

Word of the attack has struck home for people who ride the shuttles. Student Amica Simmons warns others never to walk alone. She doesn't believe it's safe for two females to walk alone.

There is no composite sketch of the attacker. However, investigators say the suspect is 6'0" tall, 180 pounds, clean shaven with a short haircut. The victim says the attacker was young, but older than college-aged. He was also wearing a navy UNC sweatshirt and dark pants or jeans.

Any information about this crime should be reported to the Carrboro-Chapel Hill-UNC Crimestoppers at919-942-7515.
