Blackwell Pleads Innocent in Fatal Durham Accident

Posted Updated

DURHAM — The February 1996 accident on Guess Road in Durham that caused the death of a little girl resulted in a charge of first-degree murder against the driver of the truck that collided with the mini-van she was in. The family of Megan Dail helped bring about stricter laws against repeat DWI offenders.

Now, the man charged with drunk driving and with the death of Megan Dail, Timothy Blackwell, was arraigned in a Durham court Friday. Blackwell pleaded not guilty to first degree murder (non-capital), habitual DWI, possession of drug paraphernalia, and four counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. HIs trial date is set for March 16.

Police say Blackwell was drunk when his vehicle hit the Dail's van.
