Raleigh Police Investigate Shooting Death

RALEIGH, N.C. — Raleigh police are investigating the shooting death of a man near New Bern Avenue late Saturday morning.

At about 10:30 a.m., authorities responded to the

100 block of Maple Street

, where they found 26-year-old Charles Maurice White, who had been shot in the chest while standing in the front yard of a residence.

White was transported to WakeMed, where he was pronounced dead at about 11 a.m.

Raleigh police said White's death did not appear to be random.

White had numerous arrests on charges such as felony cocaine possession, sales and delivery, felony probation violations, robberies with dangerous weapon, and assault with intent to kill, according to authorities.

He had been scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 17 and on Jan. 30 on felony common law robbery charges.
