FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Cumberland County sheriff's detectives have charged a Fayetteville man with the attempted homicide of his 11-week-old son.

Tyrone Devon Patten, 20, of Fayetteville was arrested Thursday and charged with attempted first-degree murder and three counts of felony child abuse, inflicting serious bodily injury.

Emergency workers were dispatched Tuesday evening to Patten's home, where they found the child to be nonresponsive, according to authorities.

The child was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he was diagnosed with shaken baby syndrome. Doctors also found multiple skeletal fractures that investigators said were from prior abuse.

Authorities said Patten has an extensive domestic violence record and outstanding probation violations in New Jersey.
