ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A weekend yard sale raised enough money to buy a headstone for the grave of a baby found dead last month in a Rocky Mount trash bin.

The Fraternal Order of Police raised $800 in the yard sale to help pay for the funeral and grave marker.

Investigators said someone killed the 2-day-old boy and deposited the body in a Dumpster behind a Food Lion in the River's Edge Shopping Center on U.S. Highway 301. A man looking for recyclable materials found the body, which still had the umbilical cord attached.

Authorities haven't disclosed the cause of death. They said the infant might have been killed elsewhere and dumped in Rocky Mount.

A $10,000 reward has been established for information leading to an arrest in the case. The money was donated by the Rocky Mount Police Department and from inidividuals.
