Five years ago, Air Force Capt. Marty Theer was shot and killed outside his wife's office. Fayetteville police quickly put the pieces together and charged Fort Bragg soldier John Diamond with murder. Authorities discovered Diamond was having an affair with Michelle Theer.
Diamond was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. To this day, Theer blames Diamond saying, "I made a lot of mistakes, and ultimately I may be responsible for Marty's death" for bringing Diamond into their lives.
A year and a half after the murder, Theer was charged with killing her husband, but she was nowhere to be found. Finally, U.S. marshals caught up with in her Florida. She was using a fake name and had plastic surgery.
In the interview, she blamed the "new" Michelle Theer on Diamond, saying "I had gotten threatening letters from John.. I eventually decided that I just had to disappear."
Theer also said she got plastic surgery because of bad acne scarring and skin discoloration.
She admits running made her look guilty, but claims she was already convicted in the public eye.
"I don't think people will ever believe I'm not a monster ... because people want to believe the worst because it makes a better story," she said in the interview.
Theer is currently serving life at a women's prison in Montgomery County. She spends her days handing out clothes to new inmates.
In contrast to Theer's story, Diamond blames her for the murder. He's currently appealing his conviction with the Army. Theer's case is also on appeal.
