Woman Dies In Durham House Fire

Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — Fire crews in Durham now know the name of a woman who died in an overnight house fire.

The fire was located at a home on

West Hills Drive

. When firefighters arrived around 3 a.m., they said three-fourths of the home was engulfed with flames.

Fire crews say the blaze was so intense than they had to deal with the fire from the outside. Neighbors reported hearing explosions in the house and a power line was split in half.

Firefighters found 74-year-old Frances Regan, a retired nurse, under some debris in her second-floor bedroom. The fire marshal believes she died from smoke inhalation.

Fire officials believe the blaze started in the kitchen, but they do not yet know what caused the fire.
