HARNETT COUNTY, N.C. — Authorities arrested a registered sex offender in Harnett County last week on charges that he allegedly raped a 12-year-old girl.
The Harnett County Sheriff's Office said Thursday that James Earl Thomas was arrested and charged with first-degree rape after the victim's mother reported the allegations to authorities last week.
According to the sheriff's office, the victim's mother alleges that Thomas, in October, went into a room where the victim was sleeping and raped her. She had been visiting a friend near where Thomas lived.
Thomas is in the Harnett County Jail under a secured bond of $100,000.
