Five On Your Side Helps Woman Resolve Headstone Woes

Posted Updated

CREEDMOOR, N.C. — The cemetery is a special place for Faith Roberts, but for very tragic reasons.

In 2001, her 17-year-old son was riding his bike when he was hit and killed by a car. A year later, her husband was diagnosed with cancer.

After he died in August, Roberts decided she wanted both a headstone and a memorial bench at her husband's gravesite. So, she paid Robert Harris, owner of Mable's Headstones, about $2,100 for both.

Roberts said she was told the headstone and bench would be ready about four to six weeks after ordering them.

But she said it took nine weeks and threats that she was going to call Five On Your Side before Harris delivered the headstone. After a few more days and broken promises about when the bench would be ready, Roberts decided to call Five On Your Side.

"This was a last resort literally because I don't want to put anybody through that, but I didn't know what else to do," Roberts said.

When Five On Your Side went to interview Roberts, Harris showed up.

Harris blamed the delay on Hurricane Katrina, saying his granite supplier is located in that area and got behind on orders.

"I've been working as hard as I can for everybody," Harris said.

Harris then left, returned with the bench and promised it would be finished by the end of that day and delivered on his promise.
