HENDERSON, N.C. — A Vance County man was killed Saturday night in a hit-and-run on U.S. Highway 1 in Henderson, the North Carolina Highway Patrol said Sunday.
Authorities said Danny Herion Jr., 19, from Henderson, was charged with failure to reduce speed, felony hit-and-run and death by a motor vehicle.
Gary Wayne Hibberd, 21, from Kittrell, was walking northbound in the southbound lane of U.S. 1 near Chavis Road when authorities said Herion's vehicle struck Hibberd after he had slightly driven off the roadway while trying to pass another vehicle.
