Water Customers Advised To Protect Irrigation From Forecast Freeze

RALEIGH, N.C. — City officials are advising its water customers to protect their fixed irrigation from the hard freeze that is forecast for Thursday night.

Systems that are not protected could cause leaks or breaks from freezing, which could result in the loss of large amounts of water.

Temperatures are forecast to drop to the mid-20s before dawn.

On Tuesday, the City Council imposed Stage 2 mandatory water restrictions for Raleigh and surrounding communities who get their water from the city.

Inspectors are fining violators $200 for first offense, $1,000 for a second offense under Stage 2 is $1,000 and water service shut off for a the third offense.

Under Stage 2 restrictions, lawn watering is allowed only twice weekly; Tuesdays and Saturdays for properties with odd-numbered addresses and on Wednesday and Sundays for even-numbered addresses.
