Posted Updated

DURHAM, N.C. — Investigators are looking for a man wanted in connection with the shooting death of a Durham man nearly eight years ago.

Michael Stevon Hunter, 27, of Scout Drive, was fatally wounded in a drive-by shooting on Nov. 24, 1997, outside the front of Happy Rock United Holy Church at the intersection of Scout Drive and Enterprise Street. Investigators believe the shooting was a case of mistaken identity.

Investigators are looking for Justin Hope, 26, of Durham, who was charged with murder.

On Wednesday afternoon, another suspect in the case, Anthony Liven Copeland, 26, of Chapel Hill, turned himself in to Durham police.

On Sept. 9, investigators charged James Mark McClain Jr., 25, with one count of first-degree murder in connection with Hunter's death. McClain was convicted on federal charges of drug distribution and sentenced to 22 years in federal prison, but investigators transferred him to Durham to stand trial on the murder charge.
