RAEFORD, N.C. — The Hoke County Fire Marshal's Office issued a citation to a man for his role in a brush fire that occurred on Thursday.

Charles Cameron is charged with setting a fire to a grassland, brush land or woodland without extinguishing it. Authorities said Cameron cleared some brush for his neighbor, but failed to make sure it was put out completely.

The fire, which happened in the western part of the county north of the Five Points community, destroyed six homes. More than 120 firefighters helped put out the flames. They also had to deal with windy conditions.

According to the fire marshal's office, Cameron has a March 28 court date, but he can opt to pay a fine and court costs.
