Eastern NC Still In Search Of Volunteers To Help Rebuilding Efforts

Posted Updated

EDGECOMBE COUNTY — The number of volunteers traveling to communities in the eastern part of the state has trickled off, but the need is still great.

Those who are still trying to rebuild homes are looking for three things: building materials, appliances and manpower.

"This is not going to be short-term," says Kaye Voth, Methodist Flood Relief spokeswoman. "We're committed to this area for two years. We know that it is going to be a three- to five-year building experience, so this is not going away overnight."

Most of the flooded homes have been gutted, and now it is time to rebuild. Methodist volunteers are working on dozens of houses with plans to complete at least 200 of them.

Baptist volunteers are also looking for building supplies.

Volunteers are looking for as much help as they can get.

"We need their skill to be here," says Betty Nance of Baptist Disaster Recovery. "If you have eight or ten people there, and one who knows how to do it, then it is easy for them to follow through."

Anyone interested in helping with the rebuilding efforts can call Methodist volunteers at1-800-790-7773and Baptist volunteers at(252) 641-0495.
