RALEIGH, N.C. — After a five year court battle, a Superior Court judge ruled this week that the Division of Motor Vehicles is guilty of racial discrimination.

Bennie Corbett, who is black, says he was forced out his job after announcing he wanted to run for sheriff of Pender County.

In court filings, Corbett was told to either quit or drop out of the race, because it violated federal laws.

The final ruling against the DMV means Corbett will get his job back and get back pay. The state must also pay his legal fees.
